Let’s make the cream cheese part first.
Beat the cream cheese until… well, creamy.
Add sugar, beat…
Add egg, beat…
Mmmm.
Add the chocolate chips ( I like to use dark chocolate, but use whatever you like).
Don’t eat it! Set aside.
Now, for the brownies part. Sift together flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
If you’re not using chocolate chips for the brownie part, chop the chocolate.
In a microwave-safe bowl, place butter and chocolate. Heat in the microwave on medium until most of the chocolate is melted.
Don’t overheat the chocolate, the remaining lumps will melt when you give it a good stir – but you must do it as soon as you get it out of the microwave! Sorry, didn’t mean to yell, just don’t let it cool in lumps.
You’ll get a nice chocolate syrup. Also, don’t eat.
Add the sugar to the chocolate syrup, beat…
Add eggs, beat…
Add sifted dry ingredients and mix well.
Line a 9×13 inch pan with parchment paper – I like to line the sides as well.
Pour half of the batter into the pan.
Spread the cream cheese mixture over.
Use a spoon to top with remaining chocolate batter – you don’t have to cover the cream cheese mixture completely.
Using a butter knife, make swirls to create a marble pattern.
Beautiful. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cut when cool! Trust me on this one.
